The purpose of the Presbyterian Women is to nurture our faith through Prayer and Bible study: to support the mission of the church worldwide; to work for peace and Justice; to build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and witness to promise of God´s Kingdom.
The organization was founded in 1988 upon the completion of the unification of the Presbyterian Church. Membership is open to all women of the congregation who choose to participate in any way. The PW is organized at every level of the governing body of the church. An autonomous organization with its own leadership, program and budget, PW is in a covenantal relationship with the Presbyterian Church. In individual Churches, the women belong to circles, groups who meet in fellowship for Bible study and support of various projects.
The budget of the PW is made up of the annual pledges over and above tithes and support of the Church. This money is used to support all levels of the Presbyterian Church´s mission. In addition, the PW, in celebration giving, gives a Birthday Offering (a penny for each year of life of the member) and a Thank Offering which goes to the established Health Ministries of the Church as a whole. We also celebrate our life in the Christian community by contributing to the Fellowship of the Least Coin (small change contributed by each member of a circle for use in the Mission word of the Church , Church Women United and various Denominational Programs.
